CURRENT PROJECTS
Project: Pole Pole Foundation Projects

The objective of the POLE POLE FOUNDATION is the long term protection and conservation of the Kahuzi Biega National Park through reduction of human pressure on its natural resources and wildlife by involving and supporting communities in the vicinity of the park.

Post-War Assessment of the Eastern Lowland Gorilla in Kahuzi Biega National Park

Project: GIS APPLICATIONS FOR BONOBO CONSERVATION (Summer/Fall 2004)

The main objective of this cooperative project between The Canadian Great Ape Alliance and Sir Sandford Fleming College is to emphasize the significance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) towards the conservation of the endangered bonobo (Pan paniscus).

Project: Wildlife Values & Education

This research project, based in Yaounde, Cameroon, and in cooperation with The Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund & The Gorilla Foundation, represents stage one in a long term study of attitudes and beliefs toward the great apes and the natural world in Africa. Despite the multitude of intervention projects in Africa few, if any, have systematically studied the long term effect on local attitudes and beliefs. Understanding attitudes and beliefs gives insight into values. This project will be extended to explore attitudes and beliefs of people from rural and urban settings, people of all ages, and from different tribal and ethnic backgrounds. Results will continue to be posted on our website.
